Albrecht's Pencil

Independent-folk/rock oddities Albrecht's Pencil commenced their bid for global supremacy in the spring of 2007, after a chance collision in the music department of Queens University Belfast.
A heady collage of (amongst other things) intricate guitar work, epic larynx abuse and unexpected brazilian instruments, their maverick music draws from diverse sources while remaining thoroughly un-pigeonholeable (naturally!).
"The Only Truth" and "Philosopher" are taken from our new five-song EP, which, in a fit of quadruple bluffing cleverness, we decided to call "Extended Play". Hmmm. This delicious slice of musical history is now 100% available to everyone. Either a) track either of us down and cross our wallets with silver, or b) thwack the links on the left with your trusty mouse (hard copy from cdbaby.com and mp3 downloads from the ineffable itunes posse...)
"Agoraphobia" was cut late in the pm, in the ultra-prestigious Harty Room, Belfast. Standing to attention at the mixing desk were amigos Ger and Phil (of "John Shelley & the Creatures" fame). Joel's strings, guitar and voice were all falling to bits. He has since managed to fix his guitar and fit new strings. "Life on TV" is a live cut culled from the EP sessions.
The two "rough cut" tracks featured here, "You're Not Singing Loud Enough" and "Driving Past Illuminated Windows" (the full name wouldn't fit on the Myspace player!) were cut, mixed and uploaded with our bare hands in January 2008 - in fact all the recording took place one dreary afternoon in Joel's bedroom-garret-studio with the vocal mic hung upside down from the window blind. If anyone would like to buy us a mic stand...
